Recently, Total Eden were approached by Boonal Joint Venture wanting to replace an old pontoon pump system. Requiring a 100tonne crane to lift the pontoon in and out of the water and having no walkways to access the unit for servicing, a cost-effective means of finding a solution was in order.
Not keen on using submersible pumps, the customer was looking for a solution that could be bank-mounted for ease of servicing to the pumps. The reason the pump was mounted on the pontoon was due to high Net Positive Suction Head Requirements (NPSHR) which prevented bank mounting from the original pump Southern Cross 125x100 -250 pump set.
With a solution designed by Total Eden Rockhampton and design confirmation from Clive Croxford, Total Eden proposed the following:
• A Southern Cross Lift Pump 250x200 -315/288 long coupled to a 15KW 6 pole 415v mine spec motor. This pump has low NPSHR which makes it a suitable solution for suction lift application
• Dust Suppression Pump was replaced with a new Southern Cross 125x100 -250 long coupled pump set. This pump is coupled to a 110kw 2pole 415v mine spec motor which supplies dust suppression to the coal stockpile pad. This pump is controlled through variable speed drive.
Duty points for the pumps
Southern Cross Lift Pump - 80lps @10m
Dust Suppression Pump – 75 lps @ 98m
Total Eden supplied the pumps and all associated fittings and pipework. The customer organised a local Rockhampton Business, SMW Group, to design and fabricate the base and weld and fit-out the pipework. Electrical was carried out by site electricians. Upon completion, Total Eden commissioned the unit onsite.
