Hey Guys! This is a new video in my sub-series: Did you know?
If you’re a person considering or already living in Mexico or planning to visit, then this is for you!
As you know, when you live in any country, it's not only respectful to learn a bit about the country's history, culture and customs, but it also enriches YOUR OWN experience many times over in your interactions with people, places and events and celebrations. That's what this video series is focused on, helping you get better acquainted with Mexico's people, customs, history and places. :)

This video we learn about the unique and one-of-a-kind Independence Day celebration that tops all others!! So much so, that starting only a few years ago, many other countries and cities around the world began paying homage to Mexico on its Independence Day, September 16th, by lighting up their well-known monuments in green, white and red--in an act of solidarity, friendship, fraternity and admiration.
This footage is from the 2019 "Grito" de la Independencia (or "the cry" for independence, as the ceremony is called) which was the current president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's (AMLO), first. AMLO is the first Mexican President elected with popular majority support. That was a big deal for the Mexican people since one part had held rule over Mexico for over 70 years.
This was also the last celebration before the pandemic, so you get to see it in all its glory! It may give you the itch to plan a September 2022 trip to Mexico City or to make it a point to go experience it, if you already live there...assuming we are back to near-normal by then. Here's to hoping! Cheers!!
