The main theme of the story'The nightingale and the rose'written by Ocser Wilde is a young student of philosophy fallen in love with a professor's daughter, wanted to dance with her in a ball but she said that if he would bring a red rose for her then she would dance with him.It was a hard target for the young student because it was winter season and there's no red rose available in this season. The young student went to the garden and started crying saying that he lost his love and he could not get a rose in winter. A nightingale listened these words said by the young student. The nightingale had been singing songs of love all life and could understand the feelings of the boy. It went to tree to tree to bring a red rose for the young student but it was winter season so no tree produced a red rose. The other characters made by the writer like lizard and butterfly made fun of the nightingale. Finally a tree of white rose gave her a solution that if she would punch her heart in the thorn and sing a song in moonlight then the red rose would be produced. The nightingale did the same and sacrificed it's life and produced the red rose. On the next day the young student found the red rose in the garden. He went to the girl and showed her the red rose but she rejected his love and said that Chamberlain's nephew sent her jewels those were better than the rose. The young student threw the rose in to the gutter and said"what a silly thing is love".
