This video is about a scam involving text messages that pretend to be from USPS, that’s going around which claims there’s an “issue completing your order” or that there’s some sort of a problem with a package delivery.
These scams have been around for a long time and target not just USPS but also UPS, FedEx, DHL, and other companies. But remember, these companies have nothing to do with the scam. It's all done by the scammers who want to trick you.
The USPS text message scam about a package delivery can say several things to try to get you to click a dangerous phishing link. Don’t do it! One message I reviewed said, “USPS - You have a package that needs to be delivered but has been suspended due to an incorrect delivery address.” Another one said, “USPS - There was an issue completing your order. Please update your address to receive your package.”
These scams are trying to steal your personal information, like your bank details, passwords, codes, PINs, credit card numbers, and Social Security numbers. Don't give them any of this information. Sometimes, they create fake websites that look like the real USPS website. But if you look at the web address in your browser, it won't be the real USPS site if you got there from a scam text.
If you have fallen victim to a scam like this, let me know down in the comments below. If you need help after being scammed, call your bank right away. Tell them what happened and ask if you need protection against identity theft. Change your passwords and add extra security like two-step verification to your bank and payment accounts (like PayPal and Venmo) and your email.
