Why do many Portuguese people convert to Islam
New converts or people who have recently embraced Islam in Portugal, though their numbers are small, experience a life full of challenges and hope. Portugal, as a country with a Catholic majority, does not have a large Muslim population, although the Muslim community has existed in the country since the 9th century, during the period of Muslim rule on the Iberian Peninsula.
In modern times, the Muslim population in Portugal is mostly made up of immigrants, particularly from countries such as Morocco, Guinea-Bissau, and Mozambique. However, an increasing number of Portuguese people are starting to become interested in Islam, either due to personal study, marriage, or spiritual attraction. Their conversion to Islam is often accompanied by social and cultural challenges, considering the values of Islam differ from the dominant Portuguese culture.
