US concludes agreement on access to military base in Philippines'

MANILA The United States and the Philippines on Thursday announced that U.S. forces will be granted access to four new bases in the Southeast Asian nation. solidifying months of U.S. efforts to expand its strategic presence in the Indo Pacific region. to counter threats from China. The United States has previously committed more than $82 million to infrastructure improvements at the Philippine facilities. which already have rotating US forces admitted to them. 'The United States and the Philippines have committed to responding quickly to the agreeing necessary plans and investments for the new and existing sites.' the joint announcement said. Rommel Jude Ong. maritime security expert and retired vice commander of the Philippine Navy. said: said it was long overdue. adding that the agreement would allow the country to develop a capable counter strategy against China's incursion into Philippine waters.'
