Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday met the head of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge in Moscow. The meeting followed Putin's inauguration ceremony held in the Kremlin earlier in the day.

Vladimir Putin thanked Jacques Rogge for his work and his efforts to help Russia organize the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014.

"The work is now in full swing and some test events have already been held. And at this point I'd like to assure you, even with all political events on the agenda in Russia, our structures and myself personally will be directly involved in this preparatory works for the Winter Olympics, which are very important. Our joint efforts will be continued", he said.
