(31 Mar 2016) A court in Moscow ruled on Thursday to extend the detention of controversial Russian performance artist Pyotr Pavlensky until 5 May.
Pavlensky was detained in November after setting fire to the door of the headquarters of Russia's chief security agency in Moscow as a part of his artistic performance "The Burning Door of the Lubyanka."
The criminal charges against Pavlensky were changed from "vandalism" to "damaging a cultural heritage site" earlier this week.
The artist is well known in Russia for his political performances, including nailing his scrotum to the paving stones of Red Square in 2013.
