The English Channel is the busiest waterway in the world - and perhaps the most dangerous. Every day 800 ships of all sizes and nationalities pass through this ‘Piccadilly Circus’ of the sea.
JOHN EDWARDS and a ‘THIS WEEK’ film crew have been sailing the Channel and talking to the Captains and pilots who know its dangers. One experienced pilot thinks a maj or disaster is “only a matter of time” because of the difficulty of controlling ships’ routing in the Channel and of checking the safety of their crews and equipment.
