Red Bull Stunt Pilot Dario Costa entered the Guinness World Records by Flying A Plane Through A Tunnel in Istanbul and became the World's First Pilot to fly an aeroplane through road tunnel ✈️
The world's "longest tunnel flight by plane" record has been broken by Italian stunt pilot Dario Costa, who entered his name in the Guinness World Records on 4 September 2021 by passing the distance of 2.26 km at a speed of 245 kilometers per hour through the T1 and T2 tunnels in Çatalca (Istanbul, Turkey) in 43.44 seconds.
Italian stunt pilot Dario Costa became the first man ever to fly an aeroplane through not one, but two tunnels 🤯 What an insane way to enter the aviation history books ✈️
Costa said: Everything seemed to be happening so fast, but when I got out of the first tunnel, the plane started to move to the right because of the crosswinds, and in my head, everything slowed down in that moment. I reacted and just focused on getting the plane back on the right path to enter the other tunnel.
Costa managed to execute fine hand movements of mere millimetres throughout the flight to overcome the changes of the airflow, combined with the highly sensitive steering of the aircraft.
The flight was recognised with a Guinness World Record for Longest Tunnel Flown through with an Aeroplane at 1,610m, and Costa was presented with the official certificate.
