Indira Gandhi International Field Hockey Tournament highlights. Holland defeats South Korea 4-1, Spain defeats Poland 4-1.
The Netherlands had an easy 4-1 victory over South Korea on the penultimate day of the nine-day Indira Gandhi International Field Hockey Tournament in New Delhi on Saturday (17/1). The win virtually assured the Dutch side of victory in the round robin competition. Holland wasted no time in tacking the former Asian Games champions, taking the lead in the 5th minute when Tom Van Hek slammed the ball past South Korean keeper Song Suk Chan from a pass by Maarten Grimbergen. They continued to apply the pressure to notch up three further goals. Other scorers for Holland were Erik Parlevliet, Marc Delissen and Gys Weterings while Ji Jae Kwan scored South Korea's only goal. In the other game played on Saturday, Spain moved into a strong position to take second place in the competition by defeating hapless Poland 4-1. They dominated the match from beginning to end. Juan Carlos Peon scored in the first half and Ignacia Escuda and Antonio Iglesias (2) ran the score up to 4-0 in the second half before Zbigniew Rachwalski added some credibility to the Polish side by scoring off a penalty corner.
