Understand Corneal Degenerations, a continuation lecture of Corneal Diseases, in online Ophthalmology lectures at sqadia.com. Initially, age-related corneal degenerations are explained along with pathological corneal degenerations such as lipid keratopathy, amyloid degeneration, salzmann’s nodular degeneration, furrow degeneration, and calcific degeneration. Besides this, a variety of other corneal degenerations included in this V-Learning™ are spheroid degeneration, terrien’s and pellucid marginal degeneration.

Among the series of cornea Ophthalmology lectures at sqadia.com, this lecture for medical school students talks about Corneal Degenerations. At first, after giving the corneal degeneration definition, on the basis of etiology, age-related corneal degenerations are explained. Arcus senilis is the first age related degeneration in which corneal margin is characterized by an opaque ring of different colors explained in detail in this medical lecture.
Some other diseases of this etiology are Vogt’s white limbal girdle and Hassall-Henle bodies. Moving forward, pathological corneal degenerations are discussed one of which is lipoid keratopathy or lipid keratopathy in which deposits of lipids such are cholesterol, neutral fats, and glycoproteins are observed in the cornea. Next is the explanation of hyaline degeneration of cornea along with amyloid degeneration.
After that, calcific degeneration also known as band shape keratopathy is discussed in which band-shaped opacity in the interpalpebral zone and transparent clefts are seen. Its treatment includes the process of chelation, phototherapeutic keratectomy, and keratoplasty. Furthermore, medical students learn about salzmann’s nodular degeneration whose causative agent includes trachoma, phlyctenular and rosacea keratitis.
At sqadia.com, a lot of information is provided in Ophthalmology lectures for medical students. Likewise, this lecture has a huge learning impact as it discusses various ophthalmic conditions i.e. furrow degeneration, spheroid degeneration, terrien’s marginal degeneration, and pellucid marginal degeneration. It is also explained how and when to use the treatment modalities such as corneal transplant and corneal graft.
