Today’s update is from Brad Rippey, meteorologist with the United States Department of Agriculture.
Rippey provides an outlook from the U.S. Drought Monitor. He shares that currently 52% of the contiguous U.S. is experiencing drought and that at least 40% of the country has experienced drought for almost two full years. He said this is a result of the current La Niña, which appears to be going into its third year impacting the nation’s Cotton Belt. Rippey notes that there is a chance the La Niña will break down later this winter or into early spring, bringing back more normal weather patterns.
