Monrovia is a city located at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County. City of Monrovia is about 33 kilometers (21 miles) from the Downtown Los Angeles civic center.
City of Monrovia was incorporated on December 15, 1887. Monrovia has a total area of 13.74 sq mi (35.59 km2)
City of Sierra Madre and Arcadia are adjacent to the west and southwest, San Gabriel Mountains lies to the north, City of Duarte to the east, and City of El Monte is to the south.
Monrovia's main roads include Foothill Boulevard and Huntington Drive (historic Route 66). It is also served by the Foothill Freeway (I-210).
Huntington Drive begins at Soto Street in Lincoln Heights. South of Soto Street. the road is Mission Road. The street heads north but quickly heads northeast through El Sereno, Los Angeles and then into South Pasadena, California. In South Pasadena, Huntington Drive intersects with Fair Oaks Avenue. The portion from Soto Street to Fair Oaks was part of the original routing for US 66. Past South Pasadena, Huntington continues through San Marino, California and passes just south of the Huntington Library. The road then goes through East San Gabriel, California and then Arcadia, California where it merges with Colorado Boulevard near Santa Anita Park. At this junction, Huntington Drive becomes another portion of US 66, passing through Monrovia, California and Duarte, California until Irwindale where it continues as Foothill Boulevard and total length 16.4 miles (26.4 km).
In 2016, Metro opened a new at-grade light rail station in Monrovia called Monrovia Station. It is located at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Duarte Road, and is served by the Metro Gold Line. Foothill Transit also provides bus services to the city of Monrovia.
Most Business and restaurants are located along with Huntington Drive, Foothill Boulevard, and Myrtle Avenue.
The foothills above Monrovia are occupied by wildlife: bears, coyotes, deer, mountain lions, and bobcats. Sometimes these wild animals venture out of the foothills and into residential neighborhoods. Most of the time, the wildlife comes and goes without notice. Living in the foothills provides residents an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature and close encounters with wildlife. Like in 1994, famous Samson the Bear regularly coming down from the mountains to visit and quickly became the talk of the town. City of Monrovia even has statues of Samson all over the old town.

Old Town offers a sophisticated environment with spectacular mountain views.
