According to prophecy, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, Vishnu's wife, visits all her devotees and bestows wonderful gifts and blessings upon each of them. The auspicious time for this puja is decided upon the amavasya tithi. This puja is known to be one of the main events in the North of India.
