East: Inverness to John O’Groats
This route starts in Inverness, diverts in to Black Isle peninsula, and continues up the east coat through Easter Ross. Experience stunning Highland scenery, explore ancient castles and majestic mountains. Continuing up the coast, you will see medieval stonework and charming 17th century seaside villages. Head towards John O’Groats and the ‘journey’s end’ at the very top tip of mainland UK.
North: John O’Groats to Durness
Travel through Caithness - the most north-eastern part of the North Coast and Sutherland. The vast open landscape, also known as The Flow Country - a large, rolling expanse of peatland and wetland area, it is rich in archaeological remnants of a bygone age. See sea stacks and colonies of sea birds at the coast and explore the Orkney Islands with its UNESCO World Heritage sites.
West: Durness to Applecross
On this route follow the west coast from the most north-westerly village on the British mainland and it’s white sand and limestone cliffs. Travel through remote North West Sutherland. Visit Britain’s highest waterfall, and enjoy spectacular scenery with at North West Highlands Geopark and the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve. This section has plenty of options to discover rich heritage, seaside harbours and lots of wildlife spotting.
