Here we have Japan the Cookbook by Nancy Singleton Hachisu, published by Phaidon.
The book is bound in paper, but Phaidon has managed to create an illusion with the paper binding, making it both appear and feel like wood panels. The paper has a meshy grippy texture which really resembles wood texture. I have never experienced this type of binding before, it’s a really a fun way to make a book stand out.

The book is bound in a Smyth-sewn binding and it’s printed on good quality photographic paper, it also opens up well. The book is printed and bound in China, but the quality and the price is really great. Phaidon is definitely becoming one of my favourite coffee table book publishers, along side with Taschen.
