People are looking around on Google to find out about if goautovin.com is a scam for vehicle history reports. They’re searching for goautovin.com scam. I looked into the matter and learned a little bit more about vehicle history report scams. Basically, if you’re trying to sell your car online, let’s say on Facebook Marketplace or Craiglist, and I bet you just came from Facebook Marketplace and found my video, right? If you’re trying to sell your car online and one or more people show immediate interest and say they want to see a vehicle history report, but only from a specific website, and one you’ve never heard of, it might be a scam.
First off, I looked for info on when the supposed goautovin.com scam website was created. According to domain registration information, the website was created in June 2022, making it around six months old.
I also wanted to note that the trustworthy website Online Threat Alerts called goautovin.com a scam website.
As I continued my search, I ran into the world of vehicle history report scams, which I’ve reported about before. See the link to the reporting in the pinned comment down below.
A few years ago, long before Google users searched to find out if goautovin.com was a scam, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission published guidance regarding vehicle history report scams.
From the FTC: “The FTC has been hearing about a new scam targeting people who are selling their cars online. They’re getting calls or texts from people who claim to be interested in buying the car – but first want to see a car history report. They ask the seller to get the report from a specific website, where the seller needs to enter some information and pay about $20 by credit card for the report. The seller then sends it to the supposed buyer but never hears back.”
So if you, the seller, are asked to get a vehicle history report from a specific website that isn’t CARFAX or another big company, and you’ve never heard of the website, and they say you need to pay some money to get it, proceed with caution.
