Theodore (Ted) McCullen, age 88 of Raleigh NC, passed away on Sunday June 19, 2022. He was born to the late Stacy Sutton McCullen and Ammie Jordan McCullen on January 8, 1934 in Sampson County, NC.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Bobbie Jean Denning McCullen, brother Sanford McCullen and son in-law Lee Kenan, Ted is survived by his brothers Garland and Glenn McCullen, son Hugh McCullen, wife, Martha, daughter Sharon Kenan and son Timothy (Tim) McCullen. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Seth McCullen, wife Ashley, Chad McCullen, wife Kindelle, Meredith McCullen, Christian McCullen, wife Jessica, Gray McCullen,
Taylor McCullen and Kaylee Kenan. He has four great grandchildren, Brooks, Hayes, Wells and Mary Chesnut McCullen.
Ted graduated from Piney Grove High School then continued his education at Wake Technical Community College and Devry Technical Institute. During his career he was an Electonics, Radio and Television technician, at Dorothea Dix Hospital, WRAL and WUNC Television. He started and built multiple successful businesses with his wife as co-owner that were commercial sound services, retail television, appliance and furniture stores while in parallel developing and managing their real estate property business.
Ted and Bobbie shared a wonderful and blessed life together raising their three children and enjoyed traveling for business and pleasure. His passion for life, commitment to his family and friends was always evident in his great smile, laughter, engaging conversations interwoven with genuine interest and care. As member of Trinity Baptist Church, Raleigh, the Garner Optimist and North Raleigh Rotary Clubs he was actively involved in Sunday School, community and spent quality time with family, friends, employees, church and civic club members. With a blessed abundance of ambition and drive, his enthusiasm for learning, sharing and teaching was one of his gifts. He would always encourage and help develop others to achieve their goals. Ted took great pride in seeing people succeed and believed in service above self. His personal commitment in “dressing for success,” led him to being meticulous in his appearance which contributed to “you feel how you look” belief. Ted loved spending time with Bobbie in Blowing Rock and enjoyed the surrounding blue ridge mountain area exploring and meeting people. He was a ardent reader and had much joy listening to country, gospel music and various personal development authors such as Zig Ziglar and Dale Carnegie. Lovingly called Mr.Ted, Ted Mac or Theodore, he was a great listener and could focus on how to solve problems for the benefit of others.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, June 23 at 11:00am at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh NC. Visitations are at the church on Wednesday, June 22 from 5:00pm-7:00pm and on Thursday, June 23, at 10:00am to 11:00am prior to his service. His following entombment will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh NC. In lieu of flowers, he has requested memorial donations be made to the endowment fund for Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh.
