The Squirmy Wormy (Squirmito, etc.) needs no introduction.
The difficulty in tying in the material without cutting it and so the fly remains at least somewhat durable also needs no introduction.
This video shows the small version of the pattern (#16, on a scud hook with a brass bead) that I use in the Livingston and Bozeman area of Montana during the winter months, with a particular focus on the method I use to secure the material. This method results in a fairly durable and fairly secure tie-in point, without cutting the material.
Note: Squirmy Worms and all similar flies are legal in all public waters in Montana, but they are not legal in Yellowstone Park due to the inclusion of soft plastic.
