Making its first run in Devon after overhaul and refurbishment is Great Western Railway Castle Class number 5029 'Nunney Castle', seen working its way along the River Teign with the first Torbay Express of 2013 (the 1Z27) from Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear.
Due to a fire risk following a prolonged period of dry weather, BR Green Class 47 number 47812 or D1916 was hitched on behind so as to take over if the GWR beauty happened to set fire to any of the lineside foliage. On the outward journey this wasn't a problem, however on the return, a small fire at Goodrington saw the service delayed for 20 minutes, but still allowed for Nunney Castle to lead the train back north.
We then cut to a foot crossing near Cockwood, where we see 5029 blasting her way back north with the return working, featuring one of my lowest low angle shots for the true steam engine experience!
*Disclaimer* This low angle shot was taken at a legal location a safe distance from the running line itself. The location is a small foot-crossing just south of Cockwood Harbour, approached by a set of concrete steps. The camera was set up on a tripod just down the first step from the crossing itself, while myself and those who had accompanied me were stood at a safe distance behind the railings which can be glimpsed to the right of the video. No unsafe or illegal actions were undertaken in the procurement of this shot.
Enjoy!
