(5 Jan 2021) Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Tuesday that the coronavirus pandemic is "more serious" than at any time since spring and has urged all those living in Scotland to stay at home.
Sturgeon was speaking in Edinburgh after announcing a strict lockdown which began Tuesday.
The lockdown in Scotland will last until the end of January and schools will be shut until February.
The Scottish leader also confirmed hospital numbers stating 1,347 people were currently being treated for COVID-19. The figure doesn't include nursing homes.
More than 100,000 people so far in the country have received the vaccine.
Citing the problem of the new coronavirus variant and its high transmissibility, Sturgeon stressed the "worrying" situation the country was in and pleaded with the public to take the stay-at-home order seriously.
