Everyone (well, almost everyone) has neck tension, especially in the sub-occipitals (base of the neck) thanks to how often we sit and look at screens. These muscles help with both neck posture AND movement. That’s why Dr. Mike is shouting, “This is going to help everybody!” Who doesn’t love a little massage anyway? #romance
The upper traps then help stabilize the neck. They can get tight from poor posture—not just text neck, but also rounded shoulders, since they help control the scapulae as well. This squeezing massage can help release some of that tension.
Remember to keep your own body in alignment while massaging. Be sure to hinge at the hips and avoid rounding the back!
