Plan India is a non-governmental organisation that is committed towards transforming the lives of underprivileged children, especially the girls. One of its long-term goals is to transfigure the lives of 10 million girls by implementing strategies at the grass-root level, in order to accomplish gender equality and advance children’s rights. To shatter the prevailing gender stereotypes, Plan India organised an impactful event on 11th October 2018, the International Day of the Girl. The event, Girls Takeover, was promoted to change society’s misconception about girls being incapable of becoming decision makers. 19 Girl Changemakers took over 17 Embassies and High Commissions for a day as leaders to execute decisions that would help in transitioning the society to a better place for the disadvantaged. Darshana is a powerful Girl Changemaker who took over the role of Deputy Head of the Estonian Embassy in India for a day. She has actively encouraged families of girls from financially deprived backgrounds to get access to education. She strongly advocates against female foeticide, abandonment of girls, and is a crusader for equal treatment of women. With the belief that women are capable of accomplishing whatever they set out to achieve, she aspires to be a role model for the young female achievers.
