Goats are on display in Kolkata and vermicelli is being prepared in Kanpur. Markets all over India are buzzing with shoppers ahead of Eid al-Adha or "Festival of Sacrifice." The Muslim holiday will be celebrated in India, Monday, August 12.
Muslims in India mainly sacrifice goats, which is why the occasion is known as Bakhr or Bakri-Eid in Urdu. The sacrifice is done to commemorate Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's command. (REUTERS)
