Jagadhatri Puja is one of the important festivals celebrated after Durga Puja, Laxmi Puja and Kali Puja in the month of Kartik. Devotees worship and celebrate reincarnation of Goddess Durga in the name of Jagadhatri and create the splendid ambiance with high festive spirits. The two cities of West Bengal are famous for the worshiping of this goddess, namely Krishnanagar (Nadia District) and Chandannagar (Former French colony, Hooghly District a small town, 30 km north of Kolkata) are very special in terms of their grandeur and popularity. According to legend, Krishnachandra Ray, the raja of Krishnanagar of the Nadia District, was the one introduced the public worship of goddess Jagadhatri. Talking about Chandannagar, It was Sridhar Das who made Chandannagar’s Jagadhatri Puja world-famous, got numerous awards for his outstanding lighting for Kolkata’s Durga Pujas, and also representing India on a global platform.Immersion process of Jagadhatri idol of Chandannagar is also famous. Thousands of people gather at both sides of GT Road to watch the special lighting mounted on huge trucks passing one after the other. During Saptami to Dashami people from other parts of the state gather at this place in huge numbers.
