This presentation is based on two primary facts. First, the most stressful thing for children and adults is a low sense of control. Second, the most important thing for the development of self-motivation in children and teens is a strong sense of personal control or autonomy. Dr. Stixrud and Mr. Johnson will explain why a healthy sense of control is so good for the brain, for motivation, for learning, and for emotional development. Parents and educators will come away with how they can strengthen kids’ sense of control and their own – without being overly controlling.
