In a distant land, there lived a seeker named Ananda. Tormented by the chaos of his mind, Ananda sought guidance from the Buddha. He traveled through rugged terrains, crossed rivers, and finally reached the serene grove where the Buddha resided.
Ananda poured out his troubles, expressing the incessant chatter of his thoughts. The Buddha listened attentively and then handed him a handful of mustard seeds. He instructed Ananda to place a seed on the ground every time he felt overwhelmed by a thought, ensuring they were all planted by the end of the day.
Eager to find peace, Ananda embarked on the task. As he placed the first seed, a realization dawned upon him – his thoughts were indeed countless, much like the seeds in his hand. With each seed dropped, he felt a sense of surrender to the present moment.
As the day unfolded, Ananda discovered that the act of planting seeds became a meditation. His mind gradually quieted, and a stillness settled within him. When he returned to the Buddha, he no longer carried the heavy burden of his thoughts.
The Buddha smiled knowingly and said, 'Ananda, the mind, like the mustard seeds, can be overwhelming. Yet, by grounding yourself in the present, you cultivate a garden of tranquility.'
