A stereogram is a type of optical illusion that presents a 3D image hidden within a 2D pattern. It works by utilizing the principle of stereopsis, which is the ability of our brain to perceive depth and three-dimensionality. Stereograms often appear as a seemingly random pattern of colors, shapes, or textures.
The hidden 3D image in a stereogram is revealed when the viewer employs a specific technique called "autostereogram viewing." By defocusing or relaxing the focus of their eyes, the viewer can merge the two slightly offset images presented in the pattern. This merging of the images allows the brain to perceive depth and bring the hidden 3D image into focus.
