DON'T FENCE ME IN!
There's controversy brewing in Mahwah and it's because of these white poles. They are 22 feet long and 1 inch thick. They're called eruvs and are used by the Hasidic Jewish community to denote an area in which Jews can travel during the Sabbath.
Mahwah officials say the poles are considered illegal signs and must be taken down. Residents are concerned about the Hasidic Jewish community's impact on their tightknit neighborhood and education system.
The Hasidic Jewish community is calling the town corrupt. Ariane Datil went to the Mahwah town hall meeting to learn more.
