The honest truth is that I've been trying to reach 300bpm for 3 or 4 years desperately, but it seemed almost impossible to play faster than 270- maybe 280bpm on an everyday basis.
You guys know this feeling for sure-- one day you top out at your max speed and feel great- so you're looking forward to your next practice session because you think you're gonna be able to play even faster this time- but as soon as you'r behind your drumkit you know thats not gonna happen...it's just extremely hard to play above 280bpm for longer periods of time with ease on a daily basis.
the game changing moment for me regarding blast beats was when I started to conciously use the switch grip technique.
Within 3 weeks of transition and getting used to this new technique I started to feel comfortable at my so called max speed which was somewhere around 270, maybe 280bpm and I went up straight to 300bpm without too much struggle....
the main advantage of the switch grip technique is that you're switching back and forth between different muscle groups in your forearm and upper arm- so you don't get exhausted that quickly and are able to maintain a steady and tight blast beat for longer periods of time...
if you wanna learn more about the switch grip technique go to www.marthyn.net and now here's the switch grip technique in action: blast beats from 260 up to 300 bpm, enjoy
