Bending arcs of light and color, Caroline Degroiselle’s acrylic paintings draw on modernist and abstract expressionist influences to create a language of their own. Though she was born in Paris, Degroiselle has spent most of her life in New Caledonia, a Pacific island east of Australia, where her family relocated in 1970. The move was a transformative experience for Degroiselle, who attributes her artistic inclinations to the natural beauty of the island. “New Caledonia,” she says, “my magic and mystic island with its marvelous lagoon, intense light, and wilderness, inspired me and brought me closer to creation, art, and freedom.”
Degroiselle’s paintings will be on display at Agora Gallery from July 5 to July 25, 2017 as part of the Sensorial Realities group exhibition. Caroline Degroiselle lives and works in New Caledonia.
