Verdi's Otello | 13 Sep - 14 Oct 2014 | Tickets from £12 | Book now: [ Ссылка ]
Shakespeare’s great tragedy of deception, love and jealousy sees the Moorish army general Otello and his new wife Desdemona destroyed by the manipulative Captain Iago.
Set on the Cypriot coast, Otello’s tale of betrayed friendship is vividly brought to life through Verdi’s exquisite score which contains some of the composer’s most powerful and tender music.
This dramatic new production celebrates the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth and will be directed by David Alden, returning to the London Coliseum following his recent triumphant production of Peter Grimes. He is reunited with Grimes collaborators ENO music director Edward Gardner and tenor Stuart Skelton, who sings Otello for the first time.
Australian baritone Jonathan Summers plays the role of Iago, having achieved critical acclaim when he last performed the role in 2008 with Opera Australia, while American rising star soprano Leah Crocetto makes her UK operatic debut as Desdemona, Otello’s unfairly accused wife.
A former San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow, Leah was a finalist in the 2011 Cardiff Singer of the World competition and has previously sung the role of Desdemona to great acclaim in Bordeaux, Venice and Frankfurt.
ENO Harewood Artist Barnaby Rea plays the role of Lodovico, the Venetian ambassador to Cyprus. Barnaby was most recently been seen at the London Coliseum in the ENO productions of Rigoletto and The Pearl Fishers.
