Michael A. Cardozo, corporation counsel of New York City, delivered Hofstra Law School's inaugural Distinguished Practitioner Lecture on Monday, January 24, 2011. During his remarks, Cardozo discussed how law schools must adapt their curricula to changes in the legal field. He further stressed that, although the current legal job market is very challenging, it is creating new opportunities for young lawyers to explore employment in the public sector. As New York City's 77th corporation counsel — and chief legal officer of New York City — Cardozo serves as legal counsel to the mayor, elected officials, the city and its agencies. He has served as corporation counsel since January 1, 2002.
