You may already know about expressing two simultaneous actions with two imperfective verbs (я думаю о физике и пью крепкий кофе). But there's another way that's used in written or formal Russian, and also in some very common expressions – equivalents of "to make a long story short," "to be honest/honestly," "to put it mildly," and others.

In this video we focus on imperfective verbal adverbs in Russian: how to form them; a few exceptional forms; and which verbs don't form imperfective verbal adverbs. We'll also touch on a possible point of confusion for English speakers involving the varying uses of (and Russian equivalents for) the "-ing" suffix in English.

These forms are sometimes called "gerunds," but take care not to confuse them English gerunds, which can be quite a different animal.
