A true collection agency that does not own the debt cannot sue you in Alabama in our opinion. Often these places will illegally threaten to sue which normally violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

A debt buyer can sue you as it claims (but must prove!) that it owns the debt it is suing you on.

But a simple collector who admits it does not own the debt? Better not be suing you or threatening to sue you in Alabama.
