외국인 가사근로자 도입 시범사업
Welcome to Issues and Insiders.
Today we delve into efforts by Capital Seoul to address some of its domestic challenges by opening its doors wider to foreign workers.
For this I have Professor Song Sye-ryun at Kyung Hee University live on the line from the U.S.
Professor Song welcome.
I also have Kwon Soa with us.
Soa it's good to have you here.
1) Soa, let's begin with details about Seoul's pilot project to open its doors to foreign domestic workers as soon as late this year.
2) Professor Song, what legal additions or adjustments need to be made to support Seoul's pilot project?
3) Soa, I understand that a number of factors are behind this latest project.
Do tell us what they are.
4) Professor Song, there has also been some debate over the potential wage range for foreign domestic workers.
Do you care to explain this for us?
5) Professor Song, simply speaking, what does the Act on the Employment Improvement of Domestic Workers seek to do, and why are critics claiming the Act is inadequate?
6) Soa, what has been the response from the public here with regard to Seoul's ambitious project?
7) Professor Song, keeping in mind the concerns of potential discrimination against foreign domestic workers here in the country, what legal framework do you propose to better protect their rights?
8) Meanwhile, Soa, how are foreign domestic workers responding to the possibility of working here in Seoul?
9) Professor Song, speaking as a scholar, do you suppose the presence of greater domestic helpers will serve to boost Korea's birth rate as well as female participation in the local workforce?
10) Soa, what lessons are there to be learnt from countries like Singapore as well as places like Hong Kong that have long opened their doors to foreign domestic workers?
All right.
