The prone press up works great to relieve low back pain, improve lumbar loading, and centralize radiating pain like sciatic symptoms. However, it can be painful to perform or very stiff due to a lack of performing the motion regularly. An easy way to reset/modulate the pain that occurs with this passive motion is to perform resistive extension in a cross pattern, resisted bilateral arm elevation, or resisted bilateral leg extension. Try a few reps of 3-4 seconds and re-test extension. It's often dramatically improved and much less uncomfortable. Isometrics FTW! Are you a patient in need of my help?
