STORYLINE
The former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic could find himself re-acquainted with old friends and enemies if his extradition to The Hague goes ahead.
Officials at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) say he will be transferred from Belgrade to a UN detention unit close to The Hague that currently houses 37 detainees.
Karadzic, who was arrested Monday in a Belgrade suburb after more than 13 years in hiding, faces a midnight Friday deadline to appeal his extradition.
If his appeal is refused, he will be moved to the detention unit that is already home to Momcilo Krajisnik, a former speaker of the Bosnian Serb parliament when Karadzic was president.
Krajisnik is currently appealing a 27-year sentence for mass murder and persecution committed during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war.
The unit houses former enemies as well, including Rasim Delic, a Bosnian Muslim general on trial for murder, cruel treatment and the rape of Bosnian Serbs and Croats.
Karadzic's one-time mentor, the late ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, also spent the last five years of his life there.
