This is the first episode of The Book Blerd with ChrisTiana ObeySumner.
The first episode will review "Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist" by Judith Heumann with Kristen Joiner. This book follows the life of a disability activist who was instrumental as a counselor at a summer camp for disabled people/ people with disabilities, (see the Netflix movie "Crip Camp" for an in-depth look!) leading an occupation of a federal building to pass the 504 legislation in 1977, and co-organized the movements that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990.
In this video, I share a brief overview, some opinions and reflections on the book, and offer feedback for the series ongoing. Please like and subscribe if you are interested, and comment below with any reflections, questions, or feedback.
