Subscribe here: [ Ссылка ] Europe stands by Israel in the face of the attack perpetrated by Hamas last Saturday. This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, speaking to the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Natanyahu, during his visit to Israel. “Today I went to Kfar Aza. What I saw and heard breaks my heart,” said von der Leyen, recalling the ways in which the terrorist attacks took place. “Over 1.300 human beings have been killed by the barbaric Hamas terrorists fighting against Israel. Their goal is to eradicate Jewish life from the land and they have taken action. It is the most atrocious attack against Jews since the Holocaust. We thought it could never happen again, yet it happened. Faced with this unspeakable tragedy, there is only one possible response: Europe stands by Israel and Israel has the right to defend itself,” added von der Leyen. Israel, the president of the EU executive then reiterated, has the duty to defend its people. And we must call out the atrocities committed by Hamas by name. This is terrorism, it is an act of war. Nothing can justify what Hamas did. It is time to stand in solidarity with Israel and its people. And that's why I'm here."
Hamas, continued von der Leyen, “is solely responsible for what is happening. Hamas' actions have nothing to do with the legitimate aspiration of the Palestinian people." On the contrary, he added, “the horror that Hamas has unleashed does nothing but bring further suffering to innocent Palestinians. They too are under threat. Hamas's despicable actions are the hallmark of terrorists. And I know that Israel's response will demonstrate that it is a democracy." Europe, the president of the EU Commission assures in her speech, will continue to work for a peaceful and integrated Middle East. “We know that Hamas' actions risk undermining the historic rapprochement between Israel and its Arab neighbors, and we should watch very carefully those who have an interest in benefiting from the perpetuation of conflict in the Middle East, such as Iran and Russia. It is therefore time to work even more closely with Israel and the countries of the region for stability and against terrorism." Jewish communities around the world, concluded von der Leyen, have been deeply affected by the terrorist attack.
“Incidents of anti-Semitism are on the rise again. And this is unacceptable. We are deeply concerned about the spread of online hate speech and fake news, which is proliferating at an alarming rate and is difficult to keep track of. We are already in contact with social media platforms to remind them of their obligations. In Europe there is no place and zero tolerance for hatred, both online and offline, against anyone. In recent years, the European Union has placed the fight against anti-Semitism and the promotion of Jewish life in Europe at the center of our action as never before. This is the time when we all need to be united."
These are acts of war, war crimes. What Hamas did was the worst war crime since the Holocaust, said Israeli Prime Minister Natanyah, who specified: "These are the methods of the Holocaust." “The images we saw remind us of images from the worst periods of the Holocaust,” he added. “If Hamas had its way, it would do to us exactly what the Nazis did to the Jews. They would kill every last one of us, they would mutilate our bodies, and that's what they did,” Netanyahu later clarified. “It is important to understand that Hamas has perpetrated the worst war crimes since World War II,” he concluded.
