Bicycling: unclipping & stopping
1. eyes up
2. pick your stopping point
3. engage your brakes to gradually come to a stop
4. prior to scrubbing off all speed, disengage 1 shoe from the pedal (and rest on top of pedal)
5. as you come to a stop, simultaneously bring unclipped foot to the ground and bring your butt forward off of the saddle and lean the bike to the side where your foot is on the ground
(keep one foot clipped in when pausing at traffic lights, stop signs, etc)
NOTE: you can always unclip early - well in advance of your desired stopping point - and rest your foot on the pedal This is a good idea for those new to clipless pedals. unclip early so you know you are disengaged. Since you have 1 foot clipped in you can still pedal with 1 foot while keeping the other unclipped and resting on the pedal until it is time to come to a stop.
