On 16 July 2020, SACBO, the Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport management company, reached the milestone of 50 years from its date of incorporation. The anniversary was celebrated in a manner very different to the original intentions, and, as the crucial date approached, there were major changes in the plans that had been prepared, as a result of having to comply with the necessary restrictions that had been put in place in order to deal with the pandemic. However, the anniversary retained its significance as an emblematic landmark in the airport’s development, due to the shared participation on the part of the entire population of airport employees and operatives, whose obligatory distancing, though temporary, from the location and atmosphere in which they normally performed their roles, had no effect on their sense of belonging and their conviction of having contributed, over the passage of time, to the airport’s overall development.
