President Kennedy devotes the major portion of his news conference to denouncing the steel companies for raising steel prices by $6 a ton. Calling their action "irresponsible" and "in defiance of the public interest" he concludes by saying, "Some time ago I asked each American to consider what he could do for his country. And I asked the steel companies...In the last 24 hours we had their answer!"
