I’m Zoe and this is something I made for my "Anime" course exam -- "Cyborgs and identities". I don't own any of these videos -- Bjork's "All is full of love" produced by Chris Cunningham, "Doll Face" video created by Andy Huang, "Ghost in the shell" movies by Mamoru Oshii. I selected and cut various parts of those and created a new, continuous story out of it. I recommend you to full screen it due to resolution thing. Enjoy.
Short review -- This video problematizes contemporar and future society of techno culture. Man vs. Machine - who is the leader or who will be. Is there ever going to exist such thing as "soul/ghost of machines", or in another words, is it possible to create a machine with consciousness or self-knowing? However, from another perspective, what are these cyborgs nowadays?
The "doll face machine", could represent an average human who is idealizing media 'picture perfect' and standars that media images and mass culture are setting; or either some futuristic android that wants to be perfected as a human being, which, in that case, points out the egoistic nature of humans who multiply their own copy -- robots, dolls, bots. Bjork's androids initiate sexual-preference questions, among many others - the connection between sex, sexuality and society roles. Manipulation of social constructs; feminism, homosexuality, self-love, ego etc. Feel free to comment or discuss.
Thanks.
