Greeks in Australia and New Zealand + "I Fabrika"= A Pictorial Perspective of their Early Years
As a sequel to the 'Journeys of Uncertainty of Hope' and Stelios Kazantzidis' song, 'Pao Stin Australia' clip, Sydney historian, Vasilis Vasilas, pays tribute to the Greek migrants to Australia and New Zealand by looking at their early years in their respective adopted homelands.
In this clip, the photos focus on the challenges of factory work and labour- intensive work, as these migrants struggled to adapt to their new homeland- lack of language, monotonous and heavy workloads... these were challenging years...
All these photographs are from Vasilis' archives, after years and years of scanning Greek migrant's photos... they have been included in his books "Journeys of Uncertainty and Hope", "Our Homeland: Lesvos", " To the Farthest Place on Earth" and on the Syndesmos website...
This clip features the iconic migrant song, 'I Famrika' off Yiannis Markopoulos' album, 'Metanastes' ('Migrants'), and it was written by Yiannis Markopoulos (music) and Giorgos Skourtis (music).
