Stories in Democracy, in partnership with Sno-Isle Libraries and The Daily Herald explores the issues facing our communities and the future of democracy through a series of personal conversations with the congressional representatives of Snohomish and Island counties.
Lois Langer Thompson, Executive Director of Sno-Isle Libraries is joined by Jon Bauer, the Editorial Page Editor of The Daily Herald Newspaper. Their guest is Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who is now serving her third term in Congress representing Washington's seventh congressional district, which includes Edmonds, Shoreline, Seattle, Burien, and Normandy Park. She is the first South Asian American Woman elected to the US House of Representatives. Representative Jayapal was born in India, grew up in India, Indonesia, and Singapore, and came to the United States by herself at the age of 16 to attend college at Georgetown University. She later received her MBA from Northwestern University, worked in a number of industries in both the public and private sector, and has authored two books.
