STORYLINE:
Indonesian voters were choosing a new president Wednesday as an exercise of the world’s third-largest democracy a quarter-century after shaking off a brutal dictatorship.
Former governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo is one of three candidates vying to succeed the immensely popular President Joko Widodo, who is serving the final of his two terms in office.
Pranowo is the governing party candidate but does not have Widodo's support. He was a national legislator for the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle for 10 years before being elected in 2013 for the first of two terms as governor of vote-rich Central Java region.
