Gerardo Murillo was born in Guadalajara in 1875 and studied art in both Guadalajara and Mexico City. He adopted the name Dr. Atl for his painting ()in the Náhuatl language it means "Doctor Water"). He traveled extensively in Europe during the early 1900s and returned home to join the action when the Revolution broke out in Mexico. He associated with Rivera, Siqueiros, and Orozco He painted portraits for a living, but his passion was for landscapes as featured in this video. He died in Mexico City in 1964.
