Pitru Paksha, also known as Shraadh or Mahalaya Paksha, is a period in the lunar calendar dedicated to paying homage to one's ancestors or pitrus. It is believed to be a time when the souls of departed ancestors visit the Earth Loka during this time.
This year, Mahalaya Paksha starts on the 17th September and ends on 2nd October. During this time, it is advised to perform Shradh, Tarpan and other offerings for our ancestors, seek their blessings and pray that reach the highest!
Pitru Paksha celebrates the embracing nature of sanatan Dharma, where every aspect of life, including death, is acknowledged, respected, and woven into the fabric of spiritual practice.
